Our History

The Lake Erie Chapter of the Federation of Fly Fishers was founded in February of 2007. The clubs founder Ray Markiewicz saw the need for a charter club of the FFF and organized the membership. In the first year the chapter obtained not for profit status and tax exempt status to further our educational and conservation activities. The chapter also launched a float stocking program early in the very first year of operation. Members Tony Marino and Jay Lechner created float stocking devices made from a canoe cut in half which allows as many as 800 fingerling trout to be stocked in various locations along a stream. Volunteers stocked fish in the East Koy and plan to do so every stocking season.

Project Healing Waters was launched in our first year. This is a program where we teach veterans who served our country the skills of fly casting and fly tying.
This is an ongoing program and if you would like to help let us know at a regular meeting or call Ray Markiewicz at 549-1977.

Our chapter has also implemented a Boy Scout Merit badge program. We will assist scouts in obtaining the badge by learning the skills required for fly fishing as stated in the boy scout merit badge manual.

The Lake Erie chapter also featured a display at the Western New York Outdoor Expo and at the first annual Chautauqua Fly Fishing Expo in Mayville.
